A RESOLUTION celebrating the life and legacy of Roger James “Jim” Davis and honoring his lifelong service to country, community, and family.

RESOLUTION NO. 21936, June 9, 2025

 

INTRODUCED BY Megan L. Smith, County Legislator

 

Body

 WHEREAS, Roger James “Jim” Davis, a distinguished veteran, public servant, and devoted family man, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2025, at the age of 93 in Kansas City, Missouri, and;

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Davis was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and demonstrated a deep sense of duty from a young age, joining the Air National Guard at 17 and later serving in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, and;

 

WHEREAS, following his military service, Mr. Davis earned a degree in Accounting from the University of Denver and built a successful career in the insurance industry, while also raising a loving family and continuing to serve his country in the United States Coast Guard, ultimately retiring as a Captain after 25 years of service, and;

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Davis dedicated decades to civic engagement and community betterment, including over 20 years on the Eastern Jackson County Human Relations and Citizens Complaints Commission (EHRCC), where he also served as Chairman, and;

WHEREAS, Mr. Davis also served as Chairman of the John Knox Village Finance Committee from 2019 to 2025, applying his financial expertise for the benefit of his community, and;

 

WHEREAS, in retirement, Mr. Davis continued to selflessly serve others by volunteering to drive children in need of medical care to the Shriners Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, rising as early as 3:00 a.m. to make the monthly journey-a testament to his unwavering compassion and generosity, and;

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Davis was a Certified Financial Planner, educator, and Post Commander with the American Legion Tirey J. Ford Post 21, and also chaired the Jackson County Ethics Commission, and;

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Davis was a proud resident of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, where he enjoyed his later years with his beloved wife Jean Davis, celebrating his five children and five grandchildren, and cheering on his MU Tigers, Kansas City Chiefs, and Kansas City Royals, and;

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Davis will be remembered not only for his achievements but for his humility, kindness, and commitment to service, leaving a profound and lasting impact on all who knew him; and,

WHEREAS, the Legislature and Jackson County hereby honors the life and legacy of Roger James “Jim” Davis, and extends its deepest condolences to his family, friends, and community; now therefore,

 

 BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby recognizes and celebrates Jim Davis with sincere gratitude for his extraordinary life of service.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
