Body
WHEREAS, every year the month of March is designated as Women’s History Month by Presidential Proclamation, to honor women’s contributions in American history and recognize trailblazing women who are doing work that lifts their communities; and,
WHEREAS, recognition is in order for one of our champions for their work in the community and that is Kathy Nelson; and,
WHEREAS, Ms. Nelson serves as the President and CEO of both Visit KC and the Greater Kansas City Sports Commission & Foundation; she is a strong believer in the economic, social and community-building benefits of sports, meetings, tourism and events of all kinds; and,
WHEREAS, Ms. Nelson works to promote our community locally and nationally with the goal of attracting, retaining and facilitating sports programming, business events and leisure travel across the region, and recently, Ms. Nelson has been behind the success of such high-profile achievements as the 2023 NFL Draft and bringing the FIFA World Cup 26™ to our community; and,
WHEREAS, Nelson joined the KC Sports Commission in August of 2010 as the WIN for KC Director, then elevated into the role of President & CEO of the KC Sports Commission in November 2011; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED that the Jackson County Legislature hereby honors Kathy Nelson and her work to organize, promote and lift up our community making her a trailblazer we are proud to recognize and honor.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
