Body
WHEREAS, the City of Kansas City, MO, and Jackson County have sought a regional solution to detention capacity in Jackson County, Missouri; and,
WHEREAS, the City is desirous of having the County provide space to incarcerate the City's inmate population and detain those persons arrested by officers of the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department (KCPD) currently housed at the City's Municipal Correctional Institution or detained at detention facilities currently operated by KCPD; and,
WHEREAS, the County has outlined a plan to meet these needs and has identified space in an existing facility owned by the County for this inmate and detainee population; and,
WHEREAS, the attached Intergovernmental Cooperative Agreement sets for the sets for the mutual understandings and obligations of the City and County with regards to the cooperative effort regarding the regional detention plan; and,
WHEREAS, this Agreement is in the best interest of the health, welfare, and safety of the citizens of the County; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the County Executive be and hereby is authorized to execute the attached Intergovernmental Cooperative Agreement with the City of Kansas City, Missouri, for a regional solution to detention capacity issues in Jackson County, Missouri.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
