Intro

RESOLUTION # 13166, April 10, 2000

INTRODUCED BY   Terry Young, County Legislator

Body

WHEREAS, the year 2000 marks the twentieth anniversary of the commemoration of National Crime Victims' Rights Week; and,

WHEREAS, the victims' rights discipline in America has, for nearly three decades, dared to dream of a nation that is free from violence and an America where crime victims are consistently provided supportive services to help them cope with the trauma of crime and victimization; and,

WHEREAS, important partnerships have been formed among criminal and juvenile justice agencies, law enforcement, allied professionals, and victims services to ensure that crime victims are treated with dignity and respect; and,

WHEREAS, despite significant progress in providing rights and services to crime victims over the past two decades, large segments of our population, including crime victims who are elderly, disabled, or living in rural areas, are still underserved; and,

WHEREAS, the new millennium affords us the opportunity to continue to dare to dream of a nation where "liberty and justice for all" includes each and every person who has been touched by crime; and,

WHEREAS, our individual and collective efforts reflect the dreams we dare to have of a nation where no crime victim goes unserved and every crime victim is afforded rights, services, and fair treatment by the justice system and by society; and,

WHEREAS, Jackson County is joining forces with victim service programs, criminal justice officials and concerned citizens throughout America to observe National Crime Victims' Rights Week; and,

WHEREAS, we recognize the valuable contributions made this year, and every year, by crime victims and advocates who diligently promote justice for all, and offer strong voices for personal and public protection and safety; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby designates the week of April 9-15, 2000, as Crime Victims' Rights Week in Jackson County, Missouri.
