Body
WHEREAS, Alise Martiny, a skilled concrete finisher with more than 30 years of experience in the local construction industry, has been elected the first female business manager of the Greater Kansas City Building Trades Council; and,
WHEREAS, the Greater Kansa City Building Trades Council is made up of more than a dozen skilled labor organizations, serving as a central voice for union construction trade organizations; and,
WHEREAS, upon her election, Alise expressed a commitment to unifying organized labor in Kansas City to support proposals that benefit construction workers and the construction industry; and,
WHEREAS, Alise began her construction career in 1980 after applying for the Kansas City Cement Masons Apprenticeship Program, which was recruiting women and minorities at the time; and,
WHEREAS, Alise is a member of the Missouri Training and Employment Council and the Kansas Works Board and coordinated a joint Workforce Development program for the Builders Association and Heavy Constructors Association; and,
WHEREAS, Alise has a reputation of getting things done, working on hundreds of area job sites, and serving as business representative and union president; and,
WHEREAS, Alise has also served as the camp director for MAGIC (Mentoring a Girl in Construction) summer camp, a program sponsored by the National Association of Women in Construction, to offer high school girls a hands-on opportunity to learn more about careers in the construction industry; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Alise Martiny on the honor of being elected as the first woman business manager of the Greater Kansas City Building Trades Council.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
