IN THE COUNTY LEGISLATURE OF JACKSON COUNTY, MISSOURI Title A RESOLUTION congratulating Janet Parrette on her career in the field of education and wishing her well in her retirement. Intro RESOLUTION #10839, May 15, 1995 INTRODUCED BY James D. Tindall, John Patrick Burnett, Dan Tarwater, and Lisa White Hardwick County Legislators Body WHEREAS, Janet Parrette was born in Eloise, Michigan, one of fourteen children of Henry W. and Cora J. Roberts; and, WHEREAS, she received her B.S.ED Degree from Wilberforce University, Wilberforce, Ohio, and has pursued other studies at Avila College, the University of Missouri at Kansas City, University f Kansas, and Rockhurst College; and, WHEREAS, Mrs. Parrette resided with her family in Chateauroux, France for four years before coming to the Kansas City area in 1961; and, WHEREAS, Mrs. Parrette began her professional career as a social worker for the Jackson County Welfare Department; and, WHEREAS, her teaching experience began at W.W. Yates and Graceland Elementary Schools in 1964; and, WHEREAS, Mrs. Parrette then served at Chester A. Franklin Elementary School in 1968 where she has served in such capacities as head teacher, fifth grade team leader, mentor for ten student tea hers, chairperson for Franklin's Twentieth Anniversary Celebration, Economics Center Associate for Rockhurst College, Wildwood Educational Adventure Camp liaison, and taught grades 4 through 7; and, WHEREAS, an important event in her teaching career was being named Franklin School Teacher of the Year for 1985-86; and, WHEREAS, Mrs. Parrette is an active member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, where she participates on the Steward Board, Women's Missionary Society, Vacation Bible School staff, Bethel Excellence in Education Committee, and serves as President of the Daughters of Bethel; and, WHEREAS, her professional and organization memberships include the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc., Alpha Alpha Chapter, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, and Jack and Jill of America; and, WHEREAS, travel is a favorite past-time of Mrs. Parrette, who has journeyed throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe; and, WHEREAS, Mrs. Parrette's hobbies include interior decorating, sewing, gardening, traveling, walking, and reading; and, WHEREAS, Mrs. Parrette was married 34 years to the late Leslie J. Parrette, Sr., and they were blessed with three children, Cheryl Parrette Conley, a teacher in the Shawnee Mission School Distr ct, Vincent D. "Vinx" Parrette, recording artist-songwriter in Boston, Massachusetts, and Leslie J. Parrette, Jr., an international corporate attorney with the law firm of Blackwell Sanders Matheny Weary & Lombardi; and, WHEREAS, Mrs. Parrette is also the proud grandmother of two granddaughters, Melissa and Allyson Conley; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri that the Legislature congratulates Janet Parrette on her 30-year career in education, and wishes her much success and happiness in her future endeavors. Attorney Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of he Legislature.
