WHEREAS, the Pendleton Heights Neighborhood Association recently received national recognition from This Old House magazine as one of thirteen Best Old House Neighborhoods in the Midwest; and,
WHEREAS, this recognition ranks Pendleton Heights Neighborhood with such neighborhoods as the Bronzeville area of Chicago, College Hill Park in Topeka, KS, and the Frogtown neighborhood in St. Paul, MN; and,
WHEREAS, the Pendleton Heights Neighborhood, located in the Historic Northeast area of Kansas City, was also recently honored with the Kansas City Green Neighborhood Award; and,
WHEREAS, the Green Neighborhood Award is in recognition of Pendleton Heights' weekly curbside recycling and compost pickup programs, and transforming vacant lots into community gardens and an orchard; and,
WHEREAS, for the Best Old House Neighborhoods, This Old House magazine aimed to choose neighborhoods that are still affordable relative to the standard of living for the area; and,
WHEREAS, Pendleton Heights Neighborhood ranked as among the magazine's best bargains, best Victorian housing stock, best city living, best easy commute, and best for being a great area for first-time buyers; and,
WHEREAS, Pendleton Heights, with its impressive Victorian-era homes, unique identity, and rich architecture, is the only neighborhood in Missouri to receive this national honor; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Pendleton Heights Neighborhood Association on its national and local recognitions and extends best wishes in the future.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
