RESOLUTION NO. 22280, June 1, 2026
INTRODUCED BY Donna Peyton, County Legislator
Body
WHEREAS, Older Americans Month honors the contributions and resilience of older adults in our communities; and,
WHEREAS, since its founding in 1992, the Local Investment Commission (LINC) has upheld the principle that older adults should be valued and supported in living the lives they choose; and,
WHEREAS, in 1998, Janet Miles Bartee joined LINC and went on to serve as supervisor, executive vice president, and ultimately president and CEO, bringing visionary leadership shaped by her lifelong connection to the Prospect Corridor and the example of her father, Rev. Dr. John Modest Miles; and,
WHEREAS, Janet Miles Bartee strengthened LINC’s commitment to older adults by expanding partnerships, deepening community engagement, and ensuring that aging residents, particularly in historically underserved neighborhoods, receive the support, dignity, and opportunities they deserve; and,
WHEREAS, under her leadership, LINC partnered with the Palestine Senior Citizens Activity Center, providing operational support and appointing experienced coordinator Yolanda Robinson to revitalize programming; and,
WHEREAS, this collaboration led to extraordinary growth, with membership increasing from fewer than 100 older adults in 2024 to more than 500 by 2026, supported by dozens of partner agencies and enrichment services; and,
WHEREAS, older adults in the Prospect Corridor now benefit from improved nutrition,
health screenings, exercise classes, social activities, and a renewed sense of community reflecting Janet Miles Bartee’s belief that every person deserves to age with dignity, connection, and purpose; and,
WHEREAS, the revitalization of the Palestine Senior Citizens Activity Center stands as a
testament to Janet Miles Bartee’s leadership and LINC’s enduring commitment to older adults; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, that we proudly recognize Older Americans Month and celebrate
Janet Miles Bartee for her extraordinary contributions to LINC and to the wellbeing of older adults across Kansas City; and,
