IN THE COUNTY LEGISLATURE OF JACKSON COUNTY, MISSOURI

A RESOLUTION recognizing the 46th Anniversary of the National Association of Hispanic County Officials (NAHCO).

RESOLUTION NO. 22284, June 1, 2026

 

INTRODUCED BY Manuel Abarca IV, County Legislator

 

 

Body

 WHEREAS, The National Association of Hispanic County Officials (NAHCO) was formed in 1980 as a caucus within the National Association of County Officials (NACo); and,

 

WHEREAS, the current NAHCO President is Sarah Benatar, Treasurer of Coconino County in, Flagstaff, Arizona; and,

 

WHEREAS, membership is open to any county official interested in addressing the needs of their Hispanic communities; and,

 

WHEREAS, members represent districts of all sizes and all types of county officials, elected or appointed; and,

 

WHEREAS, NAHCO is a grassroots organization that brings together county officials and staff nationwide to advance Hispanic issues from a local official's perspective; and,

 

WHEREAS, NAHCO's goal is to encourage Hispanic county officials to participate in a united national effort, advocating for the communities they serve and strengthening our political effect; and,

 

WHEREAS, members serve as a national Hispanic voice from the local level, and advance public understanding of the role counties play in nationwide public policy; and,

 

WHEREAS, NAHCO endeavors to build a grassroots network to elect more Hispanics at the local, state, and national levels; and,

 

WHEREAS, NAHCO members provide Hispanic county officials with an opportunity to unite in their efforts to communicate with federal officeholders and administrators on the needs and concerns of local government and the impact of federal programs from a Hispanic viewpoint; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED that the Jackson County Legislature recognizes NAHCO and their contribution to government leadership.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Enacted and Approved

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
