Body
WHEREAS, the American Legion, the nation's largest veterans organization, has been serving communities since its founding in 1919; and,
WHEREAS, the American Legion hopes to highlight the accomplishments and activities of the volunteers through American Legion Day on September 16, 2009; and,
WHEREAS, the American Legion serves youth, veterans, troops and the community through various activities, offering something for everyone; and,
WHEREAS, some examples of the American Legion activities include running Boys State, Boys Nation, Girls State, and Girls Nation, awarding thousands of dollars in scholarships each year, and acting as the most effective veterans advocacy organization in Washington; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates the American Legion on its service to the community, and recognizes September 16, 2009, as American Legion Day in Jackson County.
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
