RESOLUTION NO. 22214, March 23, 2026

 

INTRODUCED BY Manuel Abarca IV, County Legislator

 

 

Body

 WHEREAS, Women’s History Month recognizes the leadership, accomplishments, and impact of women who strengthen their communities; and,

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Jennifer Collier is superintendent of the Kansas City Public Schools (KCPS), where she was an educator for 26 years; and,

 

WHEREAS, she served as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, Chief Human Resource Officer, and Deputy Superintendent; and,

 

WHEREAS, as KCPS Deputy Superintendent, Dr. Collier managed the academic, social-emotional, and operational functioning of schools, overseeing the Departments of School Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, Professional Development, Student Support, Equity and Inclusion and Human Resources; and,

 

WHEREAS, under her leadership, KCPS launched Project “Support Our Schools”, an initiative to help schools address the pandemic related staffing shortage; and,

 

WHEREAS, one of Dr. Collier’s most urgent academic goals is to ensure that KCPS students are proficient readers; and,

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Collier believes that literacy is a social justice issue and every child, no matter their race, socio-economic status, zip code or educational level of their parents, has the right to learn to read; and,

 

WHEREAS, it is a moral imperative, as competence in literacy will either serve as a gatekeeper or a passport to a promising future; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED the Jackson County Legislature commends Dr. Jennifer Collier as Superintendent and her many accomplishments.

 

 

 

Enacted and Approved

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
