Body
WHEREAS, the Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners of Kansas City, Missouri, contracted with Bucher, Willis, and Ratliff to conduct a feasibility and site selection study for a proposed community center in northeast Kansas City; and,
WHEREAS, a part of the study focused on the determination of the indoor recreational needs of the community, including a gymnasium, walking track, fitness and exercise room, meeting rooms, and aquatics facilities; and,
WHEREAS, stakeholders group meetings were conducted for the past year to review potential locations for the new community center; and,
WHEREAS, a valid survey was sent to citizens in the Northeast area seeking input regarding the needs and types of programming activities desired in the community; and,
WHEREAS, a public meeting was held on May 16, 2007, to present the recommendations of the stakeholders group; and,
WHEREAS, at the meeting, the Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners voted to accept and approve the recommendations made by citizens in the Northeast community and the stakeholders group to move forward in seeking the funding and design for a new community center on city-owned land consisting of approximately nine acres at 9th Street and Van Brunt Boulevard; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature fully supports the action of the Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners and urges the Kansas City Council and other city agencies and officials to move forward with all deliberate speed in the funding and design of a new Northeast Community Center to be located at 9th Street and Van Brunt Boulevard in Kansas City.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
