A RESOLUTION declaring the intent of the Legislature regarding the expenditure of the
proceeds of the local use tax submitted to the voters of Jackson County at the primary
election to be held August 6, 1996.

Body
WHEREAS, the constitution and laws of the state of Missouri provide for the enactment
of a use tax by means of local option election; and,
WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of the people and the government of Jackson County
such a local option use tax be enacted; and,
WHEREAS, the Legislature, by Ordinance 2544, dated June 3, 1996, has placed before
the voters of Jackson County a question to decide whether or not such a local option use
tax will be enacted in Jackson County; and,
WHEREAS, it would be beneficial to the voters of the County for the Legislature to declare
in advance its intentions regarding the expenditure of the proceeds of such a use tax; now
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri that it is the
intention of the Legislature that the proceeds of the local use tax, if authorized by the
voters on August 6, 1996, be used to fund much-needed capital improvements within the
County and partially fund the expense of operating the newly expanded Jackson County
Detention Center and Annex.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a
majority of the Legislature.
