Body
WHEREAS, nurses provide life-saving care to Jackson County residents and others every day; and,
WHEREAS, University Health-Kansas City is a county-owned facility; and
WHEREAS, nurses serve on the front lines of healthcare, risking their lives to treat the injured and sick; and,
WHEREAS, nurses are the largest group of workers in America’s healthcare system; and,
WHEREAS, the work of nurses encompasses a wide scope of medical practice, including direct care, education, and research; and,
WHEREAS, nurses help promote healthy lifestyles and help Americans treat and prevent chronic diseases; and,
WHEREAS, University Health employs over 1,500 nurses at its various locations throughout Jackson County; and,
WHEREAS, nurses are leaders and consistently provide visionary leadership at health systems across the United States; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby designates the week of May 6 - May 12, 2026, as National Nurses’ Week in Jackson County, paying thanks and tribute to these community heroes.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
