Body
WHEREAS, the Raytown High School Debate and Forensics squad has been ranked in the top five percent in the nation by the National Forensics League; and,
 
WHEREAS, this marks the fourteenth time in the past seventeen years that Raytown High School's debate squad has been ranked in the top five to ten percent bracket; and,
 
WHEREAS, the squad prepares for competitions by following the district's motto "Expect the Exceptional"; and,
 
WHEREAS, debate squad teacher, Mark Harris, stresses to his students that championships are won with practice and preparation and trophies are picked up at the tournament; and,
 
WHEREAS, the annual rankings by the National Forensics League are based on competitive and service related activities the students participate in throughout the year; and,
 
WHEREAS, student participation in speech and debate programs can help prepare them for college and/or careers by improving reading, listening, speaking, writing, and critical thinking skills; and,
 
WHEREAS, speech and debate can influence multiple aspects of students' lives by developing social and academic confidence in the student participants; now therefore,
 
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates the Raytown High School Debate and Forensics squad on its ranking in the top five percent in the nation and extends sincere best wishes for continued success in the squad's future endeavors.

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
