Body
 
WHEREAS, the Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI), a four-year college of art and design, is celebrating its 125th Anniversary; and,
 
WHEREAS, KCAI was created in 1885 when a group of Kansas City artists got together to start a Sketch Club "to talk over art matters in general and to judge pictures"; and,
 
WHEREAS, KCAI will celebrate its 125th Anniversary with a variety of events and activities, including a black-tie-optional anniversary gala, area art museums and galleries hosting exhibitions of work by KCAI graduates and faculty, and an alumni reunion, symposium and birthday party; and,
 
WHEREAS, according to Kathleen Collins, president of KCAI since 1996, the theme for the anniversary year is "Honoring the Past, Creating the Future";  and,
 
WHEREAS, the school is also launching a new academic major, digital media, as a part of the 125th Anniversary, which will allow students to select one of four areas of emphasis:  3-D design and modeling, electronic game design art, motion graphics, and visual effects; now therefore,
 
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates the Kansas City Art Institute on the occasion of its 125th Anniversary.
                  
 
 
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
