Body
WHEREAS, Earth Day is celebrated annually in April as a day of environmental awareness and action; and,
WHEREAS, Earth Day 2024 provides an opportunity for individuals, communities, and governments to come together to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote sustainability; and,
WHEREAS, Jackson County, Missouri, recognizes the importance of protecting our planet for current and future generations, and acknowledges the need for collective efforts to address environmental challenges, especially the contributions in our community of the Metropolitan Energy Center, Bridging the Gap Climate Action KC, Sunrise Movement KC, and the Sierra Club - Thomas Hart Benton Group; and,
WHEREAS, the citizens of Jackson County are committed to preserving and enhancing the natural beauty of our region, including our parks, waterways, and green spaces; and,
WHEREAS, through education, advocacy, and community engagement, we can work together to promote environmental stewardship and foster a culture of sustainability within our county; and,
WHEREAS, Earth Day 2024 serves as a reminder of the interconnectedness of all living beings and the importance of safeguarding the health and well-being of our planet; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri that the Legislature hereby recognizes and celebrates Earth Day 2024, and urges all residents to take action to protect and preserve our environment; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature encourages participation in Earth Day events and activities throughout the County and commits to supporting initiatives that promote sustainability and environmental conservation.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
