Body
WHEREAS, John Bluford III, President and CEO of the Truman Medical Centers, was elected to serve as the chairman-elect of the American Hospital Association effective January 1, 2010, and will assume chairmanship of the organization in 2011; and,
WHEREAS, the American Hospital Association is a not-for-profit association of health care provider organizations that are committed to health improvement in their communities; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Bluford has served as the President and CEO of the Truman Medical Centers since 1999, and served 21 years in various administrative capacities at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN, prior to his Truman Medical Center tenure; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Bluford earned a bachelor's degree from Fisk University, a master's degree in business administration from Northwestern University, and was a student of the Harvard University's Executive Program in Health Policy; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Bluford has lectured both nationally and internationally, on the subjects of Managed Care and Change Management in Healthcare Organizations; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Bluford has been the recipient of numerous awards including the 2009 Distinguished Service Award from the Missouri Hospital Association, the Kansas City Urban League Difference Maker Award, the NCCJ Harmony Distinguished Citizen Award, the NAACP Special Achievement Award, the Missouri Hospital Association Visionary Leadership Award, and recognition as one of America's Most Influential Health Care Executives by Modern Healthcare; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates John W. Bluford III on his designation as the chair-elect of the American Hospital Association, acknowledges his distinguished career and accomplishments, and extends sincere gratitude for his commitment to the community.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
