Body
WHEREAS, Marlene Nagel officially retired from the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) after a remarkable 52-year career; and,
WHEREAS, she originally joined MARC in 1974 and spent decades shaping the greater Kansas City region through a variety of vital roles; and,
WHEREAS, Marlene has worn many hats over the years, contributing to and leading work around community development, housing, public health, local government services, and more; and,
WHEREAS, having joined just two years after the organization was founded, Marlene played an instrumental role in the planning efforts that led to the restoration of Union Station and provided administrative support to the Bi-State Commission; and,
WHEREAS, Marlene worked on many regional projects and initiatives, including emergency services and public health, 911 system coordination, economic and workforce development, legislative advocacy, local government services, a homeless information system, solid waste management, and others; and,
WHEREAS, she served as the Community Development Director from 1984 through 2024, leading regional efforts in public safety, public health, and environmental planning; and,
WHEREAS, in late 2024, she became the director of the newly formed Office of Resource Development, focusing on organization-wide grant sourcing and capacity expansion; and,
WHEREAS, she helped guide the success of the Kansas City Regional COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund, which distributed millions in aid funds to address community needs; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED that the Jackson County Legislature would like to recognize Marlene Nagel and her contributions in the community and congratulate her on the occasion of her retirement.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
