Body
WHEREAS, the Magna Award recognizes school districts across the country for outstanding programs that advance student learning and encourage community involvement in schools; and,
WHEREAS, the Magna Award was initiated by the American School Board Journal in 1995 and winners are selected by an independent panel of school board members, administrators and other educators; and,
WHEREAS, the Lee's Summit R-7 School District was awarded the Magna Award in 2008 for the Lee's Summit Educational Foundation's capital campaign that helped fund the Great Beginnings Early Education Center; and,
WHEREAS, the Lee's Summit R-7 School District was awarded the Magna Award in 2009 for its 21st Century Learning Program; and,
WHEREAS, the Lee's Summit R-7 School District was awarded the Magna Award in 2010 for its Senior Citizens' School Tours program developed to promote better relations between the school system and senior citizens by hosting day trip school tours which include classroom visits, lunch in the cafeteria, a student performance, and time to talk with students; and,
WHEREAS, the 16th Annual Magna Award was presented April 12, 2010, at the School Leaders Luncheon as part of the National School Board Association's 70th Annual Conference in Chicago, Illinois; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates the Lee's Summit R-7 School District on being awarded the annual Magna Award for the third consecutive year and extends sincere gratitude for the District's efforts in the growth and development of strong relationships within the community.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
