AN ORDINANCE appropriating $130,000.00 from the undesignated fund balance of the 2026 Capital Improvement Fund for the purchase and installation of a new generator for the Medical Examiner’s Office and declaring certain equipment as surplus property and authorizing its disposal pursuant to Chapter 11 of Jackson County Code, 1984.

Body
WHEREAS, the Medical Examiner’s Office building currently has two (2) backup generators which only provide partial standby power for the building; and,
WHEREAS, in the event of a power outage or power grid issue, critical infrastructure at the Medical Examiner’s Office may not receive sufficient backup power; and,
WHEREAS, the most cost-effective solution is to replace the current generators with one (1) larger generator which will provide complete standby power for the building; and,
WHEREAS, the new generator will be provided by Central Power Systems & Service of Liberty, MO, a current County vendor, under the current term and supply contract for these services; and,
WHEREAS, the removal of the current generators and installation of the new generator will be managed by Staco Electric Construction Co. of Kansas City, MO, a current County vendor, under the current term and supply contract for these services; and,
WHEREAS, Staco Electric is discounting the cost of the installation with the trade-in value of the existing generators; and,
WHEREAS, an appropriation is necessary to fund these awards; now therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the following appropriation be and hereby is made:

BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the County property described above, two (2) generators currently at the Medical Examiner’s Office, are hereby declared surplus, and that the Interim Director of Finance and Purchasing be, and hereby is, authorized to turn over said property as a trade-in as provided in section 1134. of the Jackson County Code, 1984.

Effective Date: This Ordinance shall be effective immediately upon its signature by the County Executive.
