Body
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Independence did adopt the Tourism and Independence Square Strategic Development Plan, Resolution No. 4560, incorporating it as Chapter 16 in the Comprehensive Plan on December 21, 1998; and,
WHEREAS, three of the eight key strategies of the Tourism Strategic Plan include, linking the four pillars of the City (Historic Square, Frontier Trails, Truman, and Missouri Mormon), reviving the historic square and developing a Master Visitor Center in the historic courthouse; and,
WHEREAS, a letter of agreement between the administration of Jackson County and the City of Independence was signed in February, 2000, endorsing their cooperation in support of these basic concepts; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature supports basic concepts presented in the Visitor Orientation Center Development Study to establish a Visitor Orientation Center in the Historic Jackson County Courthouse, in partnership with the City of Independence and other appropriate entities.
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
