Body
WHEREAS, Scuola Vita Nuova, in its fifteenth year as a Kansas City Charter School, is celebrating its move to a new location at 535 Garfield Avenue, Kansas City, Missouri with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on August 11, 2014; and,
WHEREAS, Scuola Vita Nuova, meaning "School of New Life," was founded in 1999 by Judge Charles Shangler as a charter school in the Northeast Neighborhood dedicated to providing local families with educational opportunities that included exposure to the arts; and,
WHEREAS, Scuola Vita Nuova began serving grades kindergarten through fourth and expanded to include fifth through eighth grades in 2004; and,
WHEREAS, Scuola Vita Nuova Charter School serves a diverse population of students, providing a safe, healthy, and collaborative community of engaged learners who are inspired academically to gain recognition as a top charter school in academic performance; and,
WHEREAS, Scuola Vita Nuova students have achieved a 60.7 percent proficient or advanced rating for math and a 43.1 percent proficient or advanced rating for English, scoring significantly higher on achievement tests than many other local charter schools; and,
WHEREAS, Scuola Vita Nuova is sponsored by the University of Central Missouri and boasts a one to twenty-three student to teacher ratio and a 95.4 percent attendance rate; and,
WHEREAS, Scuola Vita Nuova is committed to engaging the community in its school activities and fostering a supportive network for its families; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates the Scuola Vita Nuova Charter School on its fifteenth anniversary celebration and wishes the students, teachers, and administrators a successful future at its new site location.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
