A RESOLUTION celebrating Karen Walker on the occasion of her retirement.

RESOLUTION NO. 21935, June 2, 2025

 

INTRODUCED BY Venessa Huskey, County Legislator

 

Body

 WHEREAS, Karen Walker is an accomplished insurance professional with 34 years of underwriting experience, including over a decade in leadership and mentoring roles at CNA Insurance; and,

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Walker was encouraged by her mother Dr. Barbra Johnson to go into a commercial insurance underwriting position; and,

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Walker began her career in CNA’s Commercial Underwriter Trainee Program, and was assigned a position in the Commercial Affiliated Market (CAM division) where she handled large account premiums up to $300k; and,

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Walker built a career marked by adaptability, resilience and leadership through an era of industry consolidation and change; and,

 

WHEREAS, over the years, Ms. Walker has held key roles at companies such as American States (later acquired by Safeco), The Hartford, Kemper Insurance, and eventually Travelers Insurance, where she handled increasingly complex large accounts; and,

 

WHEREAS, on Ms. Walker’s return to CNA, she found the most fulfilling chapter of her career as an underwriting consultant, she mentored and trained fellow underwriters, maintained a $12 million book of business and served as second in command in her department; and,

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Walker is known for her integrity, collaborative spirit and depth of knowledge, she has cultivated strong, lasting relationships with agents, brokers, and colleagues throughout her professional career; and,

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Walker’s career reflects not only deep technical expertise, but also passion for developing others contributing to team success; and,

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Walker takes pride in her journey, marked by adaptability, leadership and commitment to professionlism; and,

 

WHEREAS, beyond her professional accomplishments, Ms. Walker has remained deeply committed to her family, faith, and community; and,

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Walker is a proud wife of 38 years, devoted grandmother to five grandchildren, and is looking forward to spending time with them as part of her retirement plans; and,

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Walker is an active member of Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church where she is involved in the new members ministry and teaches children about their decision to follow Jesus Christ, her spiritual walk and service have been a source of strength and fulfillment throughout her life and career; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Legislature and Jackson County recognizes the importance of uplifting Ms. Walker’s story of professional excellence grounded in faith, and wholehearted devotion to family and service; now therefore,

 

 BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby recognizes and celebrates Karen Walker on her the occasion of her retirement.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
