WHEREAS, by Ordinance 3732, dated January 9, 2006, the Legislature did call a special election on April 4, 2006, for the purpose of submitting to the qualified voters of the County a question authorizing the imposition of a sales tax at the rate of 3/8 of one percent, the proceeds of which are to be used to improve, renovate, and modernize Arrowhead and Kauffman Stadiums at the County's Harry S Truman Sports Complex; and,
WHEREAS, by Resolution 15797, dated February 21, 2006, the Legislature did authorize the County Executive to approve, on behalf of the County, new 25-year subleases for the stadiums at the sports complex between the Jackson County Sports Complex Authority and the Chiefs and Royals; and,
WHEREAS, the subleases authorized by Resolution 15797 are expressly conditioned upon voter approval of the question authorized by Ordinance 3732; and,
WHEREAS, if that question is approved by the voters, the orderly completion of the stadium improvements required by the new 25-year subleases can best be accomplished pursuant to Stadium Development Agreements, which set forth responsibilities and estimated time schedules and costs for the stadium improvements; and,
WHEREAS, copies of the proposed Arrowhead/Kauffman Stadium Development Agreements with the Chiefs and Royals are on file with the Clerk of the Legislature; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the County Executive be and hereby is authorized to execute, on behalf of the County, the Arrowhead/Kauffman Stadium Development Agreements with the Kansas City Chiefs Football Club, Inc., and Kansas City Royals Baseball Corporation, now on file with the office of the Clerk of the Legislature in a final form to be approved by the County Counselor.
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
