INTRODUCED BY Dennis Waits, County Legislator

 

 

Body

WHEREAS, the Honorable W. Stephen Nixon, judge of Division 5 of the Circuit Court of Jackson County, has attended the Independence Youth Court graduation ceremony for many years, administering the oath to graduates, and speaking to the youth attorneys; and,

 

 WHEREAS, Judge Nixon's passion is for youth programs, particularly those programs that help truant students refocus their lives so that they can succeed in school and in the other aspects of their lives; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Hickman Mills Board of Education has recognized Judge Nixon for the leadership he has provided in the implementation of the Truancy Diversion Program at Smith-Hale Middle School; and,

 

WHEREAS, Stephen Nixon has served as the judge of Division 5 since 1998; and,

 

WHEREAS, Judge Nixon has also served the community as Mayor of Lake Lotawana, and he has served on the Eastern Jackson County Betterment Council, the Truman Heartland Community Foundation, the Lake Lotawana Optimist Club, and the Coalition for Excellence in Education; and,

                                          

WHEREAS, Judge Nixon is committed to the idea that each citizen is called to serve the community through civic and charitable activities, and challenges our youth to be involved in making our community a great place; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby recognizes the Honorable W. Stephen Nixon for his years of service to the community and to the Independence Youth Court.

 

Enacted and Approved

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
