A RESOLUTION honoring the life and contributions of John Bonifacio Moreno Jr. for his devotion to his community and dedication to society.

RESOLUTION NO. 21839, January 6, 2025

Body

 WHEREAS, John Bonifacio Moreno Jr. was born on September 19, 1947 to Dolores and John Moreno in Kansas City Missouri; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Moreno grew up in the East Bottoms of Kansas City, MO, his upbringing instilled in him resilience and a commitment to creating a better future; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Moreno answered the call to serve his Country, being drafted into the United States Army on October 28, 1966, he served with valor and distinction in the Vietnam War as a Recon Sergeant participating in the TET Offensive and earning numerous commendations including the Bronze Star with V for Valor, Purple Heart, and Combat Infantry Badge; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Moreno, upon returning from war, overcame significant barriers to become the first Mexican American admitted into the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local Union 124 in 1969, paving the way for future generations and breaking down the barriers of racial and ethnic discrimination; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Moreno’s career as an electrician and his contributions to IBEW Local Union 124 spanned 55 years inspiring generations of family members and union brothers and sisters, his legacy includes five generations of Local 124 members; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Moreno was a devoted husband to JoAnn, a loving father to six children, and an active community leader; and, 

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Moreno’s dedication extended to the Boy Scouts of America, where he served for over 40 years, mentoring countless young people and earning numerous honors, including the Bronze Pelican and George Meany Awards; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Moreno’s commitment to family and community were evident in his unwavering support for his children and grandchildren, embodying the values of integrity, honor, and selflessness; he exemplified a life of dedication, service, and unwavering love for his family and community; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Moreno faced the challenges of cancer and the lasting effects of COVID-19, he however remained steadfast in his devotion to his family, community, and union, attending events and meetings with courage and determination; now therefore, 

 

BE IT RESOLVED John Bonifacio Moreno Jr. passed away on November 21, 2024, surrounded by his beloved wife JoAnn and their family, leaving behind an enduring legacy of love, strength, and service; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Jackson County Legislature honors the life of John Bonifacio Moreno Jr., recognizing his profound contributions to his family, community, and country, and celebrates his legacy as a trailblazer, veteran, mentor, and devoted family man.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
