Body
WHEREAS, the Lee's Summit R-7 School District Nutrition Services Department was recently named District of the Year in School Nutrition by the School Nutrition Association being selected from districts throughout the nation; and,
WHEREAS, earlier this year, the R-7 Nutrition Services Department was one of eight districts awarded the national District of Excellence Distinction for 2009; and,
WHEREAS, the District of Excellence recognition highlights school districts that complete a thorough self-assessment in all four key areas in the "Keys to Excellence" program, and which also meets the national best practice standards in nutrition and nutrition education, communications and marketing, and administration and operations; and,
WHEREAS, Jane Hentzler, a registered dietician who has served as director of the R-7 Nutrition Services Department since 1990, was named Missouri Director of the Year for 2008-09, and Midwest Region Director of the Year for 2009; and,
WHEREAS, in being named the District of the Year, Lee's Summit R-7 rose above the District of Excellence applicants by best reflecting the "Keys Express" national best practice standards, and was evaluated on the integration of its nutritional programming into the community as well as the Nutrition Services employees' dedication and commitment to both students and staff members; and,
WHEREAS, as District of the Year, Lee's Summit R-7 Nutrition Services will be awarded $25,000.00 to further improve and enhance the district's school nutrition program by expanding the nutrition resource lending library, offering unique and fun education programs to students, focusing on wellness opportunities, promoting healthy eating, and additional training opportunities for employees; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates the Lee's Summit R-7 School District Nutrition Services Department upon its receipt of the District of the Year in School Nutrition award, and congratulates Department Director Jane Hentzler on being named the Missouri Director and the Midwest Director of the Year.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
