Body
WHEREAS, Joe LaSala, an Italian immigrant, came to Kansas City with a vision of a better life for him and the generations to follow. Time has proven him to be correct. He opened LaSala's as a full service grocery store in the Columbus Park area, in 1921; and,
WHEREAS, Joe LaSala's son, Albert, inherited the business upon his father's death and ran the business until his death; and,
WHEREAS, Albert's son Joe, began working in the grocery store when he was only nine years old and is still working in the deli at age 69, along with his son Albert, who now handles the day to day operations of the deli; and,
WHEREAS, the fifth generation of the LaSala family, Joseph Ben LaSala, also has joined in the family business and he too works along side the many other members of the family; and,
WHEREAS, in the late 70's, the LaSala family found their small grocery store could not compete with the influx of chain groceries in the Northeast area; and,
WHEREAS, in 1980, LaSala's grocery store started giving poor boy sandwiches to every customer who spend at least $20.00 in groceries and they went into the deli business; and,
WHEREAS, those poor boy sandwiches are still the number one seller of the deli, followed by the Chicken Romano dinner; and,
WHEREAS, although the Northeast area now finds itself with more and more fast-food restaurants, Columbus Park is still home to an authentic family run deli - LaSala's; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates LaSala's Deli Sandwich Cater upon celebrating its 80th year of good food and great service to the citizens of Jackson County in the Northeast area.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
