Body
WHEREAS, James "Jim" William Humphrey, Jr., celebrated his retirement from County service on July 11, 2012; and,
 
WHEREAS, Jim grew up in Kansas City, attending Guardian Angels Grade School, Lillis High School, and Benedictine College; and,
 
WHEREAS, after a two-year stint in the U.S. Army, Jim attended the University of Kansas City (now UMKC) School of Law, graduating in 1957, and passed the Missouri Bar that same year; and,
 
WHEREAS, Jim will soon be celebrating 55 years of marriage to his sweetheart Charlotte; and,
 
WHEREAS, Jim and Charlotte enjoy their six children and fifteen grandchildren and have had the pleasure of serving as foster parents for more than 74 infants awaiting adoption through Catholic Charities; and,
 
WHEREAS, Jim is a member of St. Thomas More Parish and, through the Bishop Sullivan Center, he founded the Elder Cool program, which provides air conditioners to the elderly poor; and,
 
WHEREAS, in 1968, Jim was hired as an assistant prosecuting attorney in the Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, serving with the Honorable Joe Teasdale; and,
 
WHEREAS, Jim has served the office in various full-time, and later part-time capacities, for 45 years; and,
 
WHEREAS, Jim is an avid golfer and his retirement will offer him more opportunities to improve his golf swing, spend time with Charlotte, and stay on top of his lawn care; and,
 
WHEREAS, Jim is known by his friends and colleagues as the kindest, most trustworthy person they know, and all wish him much happiness in his retirement; now therefore,
 
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Jim Humphrey, Jr., on his retirement and extends best wishes to him for his dedicated and loyal service to the citizens of Jackson County.
 
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
