A RESOLUTION honoring Rebecca Smith.

RESOLUTION NO. 22383, August 24, 2026

 

INTRODUCED BY Donna Peyton, County Legislator

 

Body

 WHEREAS, Rebecca Smith began her career with the Jackson County Courts on February 23, 1994, serving as a clerk in the Associate Judges Records Department, and for five years she supported judicial operations with exceptional accuracy, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to public service, earning the respect of colleagues and leadership alike; and,

 

WHEREAS, she later advanced to the Cost Accounting Department now known as the Administrative Department, working at the front counter for 16 years, where in a small department of only three employees she managed a significant workload with remarkable dependability and a calm, professional presence, becoming widely recognized for her outstanding dedication to assisting the public and her strong working relationships with county judges, the County Counselor’s Office, the City of Kansas City, Missouri, and numerous state and federal agencies; and,

 

WHEREAS, when Cost Accounting was reorganized into Court Accounting, Rebecca became the primary point of contact, answering all incoming calls for four departments, and her extensive knowledge, steady leadership, and consistent excellence made her an indispensable resource for staff and the community; and,

 

WHEREAS, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Rebecca demonstrated extraordinary commitment by transferring to the Executions & Garnishments Department to support a young employee working alone, and while mastering new duties she continued offering guidance to Civil Records staff, helping the courts navigate an unprecedented and challenging period with resilience and grace; and,

 

WHEREAS, Rebecca currently serves in the Unclaimed Property & Reviews Department, preparing UCP packets and managing daily system updates with exceptional care, consistency, and professionalism, further illustrating the dedication that has defined her more than 30-year career; and,

 

WHEREAS, Rebecca retires leaving a legacy of integrity, compassion, and service grounded in her guiding principle “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”, and she is celebrated not only for her work ethic but for the kindness, stability, and support she has provided to colleagues and the public throughout her distinguished tenure; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED  that the Jackson County Legislature hereby recognizes and honors Rebecca Smith for her more than 32 years of outstanding and dedicated service, and extends sincere appreciation and best wishes for a rewarding and well-deserved retirement.

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
