Body

WHEREAS, Harold L. ("Doc") Holliday, Jr. was born on October 25, 1943, in Kansas City, MO, and passed away on November 18, 2005; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Holliday, affectionately known by everyone as "Doc," is survived by his children, Harold L. Holliday, III, and Holli LeShae Holliday, grandson, Louis Holliday, sister, Bertha Holliday, former wife, Gayle Holliday, and many other friends and relatives; and,

 

WHEREAS, Doc graduated from Central High School in Kansas City, MO, and was the first African-American to graduate from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law and the first African-American to serve as a Commissioner of the Kansas City Board of Parks and Recreation; and,  

 

WHEREAS, Doc served on the Jackson CountyLegislature from 1974 to 1985; and, 

 

WHEREAS, he practiced law for thirty-seven years, first with his father, Harold L. Holliday, Sr. then as a sole practitioner, and finally with his son; and,

WHEREAS, in the 1970s, Doc became well-known for his active role in the civil rights movement with Freedom, Inc., and later went on to be President of that organization; and,

 

WHEREAS, the intelligence and charisma of Harold L. Holliday, Jr.,  will be deeply missed, and his love and passion for the community will never be forgotten; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature commemorates the life and works of Harold L. "Doc" Holliday, Jr., and extends its sympathy to his family in his passing.

 

Enacted and Approved

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
