Body
WHEREAS, public works services provided in our community are an integral part of our citizens' everyday lives; and,
WHEREAS, the support of an understanding and informed citizenry is vital to the efficient operation of public works systems and programs such as water supply, sewers, streets and highways, public works buildings, and solid waste collection; and,
WHEREAS, the health, safety, and comfort of this community depends on these facilities and services; and,
WHEREAS, the quality and effectiveness of these facilities, as well as their planning, design, and construction, is vitally dependent upon the efforts and skills of public works employees; and,
WHEREAS, the efficiency of these qualified and dedicated personnel who staff public works departments is materially influenced by the people's attitude and understanding of the importance of the work they perform; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the week of May 20-26, 2001, be and hereby is declared "National Public Works Week" in Jackson County, Missouri; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature does hereby urge all citizens and civic organizations to acquaint themselves with the issues involved in providing our pubic works and to recognize the contribution which public works employees make everyday to our health, safety, comfort, and quality of life.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
