Body
WHEREAS, Jordan Hoffman of Lee's Summit, Missouri, tied for eighth place in the finals of the Scripps National Spelling Bee held on May 31, 2012; and,
 
WHEREAS, Jordan recently completed eighth grade at Pleasant Lea Middle School, making this her third and final appearance at the national spelling bee, where she faced 278 spellers from throughout the nation; and,
 
WHEREAS, Jordan's appearance at the National Spelling Bee, held in Washington, D.C., was broadcast live nationally on ESPN and covered by national media including the Washington  Post, USA Today, and Sports Illustrated; and,
 
WHEREAS, Jordan sang in the Pleasant Lea Middle School Honors Choir and the Lee's Summit Youth Chorale and was invited to sing her composition "Together We Can" at the Spelling Bee final awards banquet, held June 1; and,
 
WHEREAS, Jordan will be a freshman at Lee's Summit High School this fall, and is a member of the Lee's Summit Christian Church and the Chi Rho Youth Group; and,
 
WHEREAS, she enjoys playing the piano, composing music and lyrics, and spending time with her family and friends; and,
 
WHEREAS, Jordan's parents, Mark and Ruth Hoffman, and sister, Sophia, are justifiably proud of their daughter and sister; now therefore,
 
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Jordan Hoffman on her impressive finish in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, and extends best wishes to her in all of her future endeavors.

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
