A RESOLUTION congratulating Audrey Stubbart on the occasion of her 104th birthday celebration.

Body
WHEREAS, Audrey Stubbart, the daughter of Francis Arlando Morford and Etta Bell Lyon of Iowa, was born June 9, 1895; and,
WHEREAS, at the age of 15, Audrey married John Stubbart and in 1915 they moved as homesteaders to Wyoming, where they had five children and raised sheep; and,
WHEREAS, in the early years, Audrey taught school in a one-room schoolhouse at a time when students rode on horseback; and,
WHEREAS, in 1944, Audrey and John moved to a house in Independence where Audrey continues to live today; and,
WHEREAS, upon retirement at 65 from her job as a proofreader at Herald House, Audrey went to work for The Independence Examiner as a proofreader; and
WHEREAS, Audrey continues to work for The Independence Examiner, as well as The Blue Springs Examiner, as a proofreader and columnist; and,
WHEREAS, named as the Missouri Older Worker of the Year in 1992, Audrey carries on her exceptionally strong work ethic and 40-hour per week commitment to her job; and,
WHEREAS, Audrey not only remembers the assassinations of William McKinley and John F. Kennedy but also remembers various events such as the invention of penicillin and polio vaccine, the first Model T, and the first flight at Kitty Hawk; and,
WHEREAS, Audrey's age and position at the paper have brought her a great deal of renown, and stories about her have been televised on such shows as Good Morning America, A Current Affair, Donahue, Today, CNN, and C-SPAN; and,
WHEREAS, Audrey is treasured by her friends and co-workers, who know her as a woman of great wisdom and stature; and,
WHEREAS, admiration and respect go out to Audrey for her strong work ethic and for a job well done; and,
WHEREAS, Audrey turned 104 on June 9, 1999; therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Audrey Stubbart upon her 104th birthday, and joins with her family and friends in recognition of this momentous occasion.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
