WHEREAS, Wesley Ferrell shuck started his illustrious newspaper career in 1946-47 as a newsboy for the Omaha World Herald; and,
WHEREAS, Ferrell later continued his career in the newspaper industry and has served as the Lee's Summit Journal's publisher since 1965; and,
WHEREAS, in 1979, he served as president of the Northwest Missouri Press Association and president of the Central Missouri Press Association in 1992; and,
WHEREAS, he has served as a member of the Missouri Press Association Board of Directors since 1993 and in 1996 became secretary of its Board of Directors; and,
WHEREAS, he has also served on the Jackson County Election Board and as a Board member of the Chamber of Commerce; and,
WHEREAS, Ferrell received the Merrill Chilote Award from Northwest Missouri Press Association in 1995; and,
WHEREAS, one of the highlights of Ferrell's career was his 1966 induction into the Missouri Press Association Hall of Fame; and,
WHEREAS, Ferrell and his wife, Janice, have been blessed with four children and seven wonderful grandchildren; and,
WHEREAS, Ferrell will be missed by his staff as he leaves the Lee's Summit Journal, and he will be fondly remembered for his support of Lee's Summit businesses and for his love of the newspaper industry; and,
WHEREAS, a party to be attended by staff, business associates, family, and friends, will be held in his honor at the First National Bank of Missouri in Lee's Summit on Thursday, July 20, 2000, from 5:00-7:00 p.m.; therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Wesley Ferrell Shuck for his 32 years as publisher of the Lee's Summit Journal, and wishes him success in his future endeavors.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
