Body
WHEREAS, Ed Browne, the proud co-owner of Browne's Irish Marketplace located at 3300 Pennsylvania, Kansas City, Missouri, will celebrate his 90th birthday on March 13, 2014; and,
WHEREAS, Browne's Irish Marketplace is a long-held family-owned business founded in 1887 by Ed and Mary Flavin; and,
WHEREAS, Ed and Mary Flavin's daughter Margaret and her husband, James Browne, next took over the business, followed by their son Bob and his wife, Margie; and,
WHEREAS, Browne's Irish Marketplace is now operated by Bob and Margie's daughter Kerry Browne and her husband, John McClain; and,
WHEREAS, Ed is one of eleven children and lives in the same apartment where his grandparents lived; and,
WHEREAS, Ed's father was from Knocknagoshel, County Kerry, Ireland and his mother's parents were from Listowel, County Kerry, Ireland; and,
WHEREAS, Ed is a lifelong member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Redemptorist Catholic Church and was actively involved with forming the Redemptorist Center to feed the poor and care for the elderly; and,
WHEREAS, Ed served proudly in the Korean War and worked as a successful financial investor by trade; and,
WHEREAS, Ed is a member of the Native Sons and works hard to preserve the history of the Valentine Neighborhood; and,
WHEREAS, Ed's family and friends wish him the best on the occasion of his 90th birthday; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Ed Browne on his 90th birthday celebration and extends best wishes to him on this momentous occasion.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
