IN THE COUNTY LEGISLATURE OF JACKSON COUNTY, MISSOURI Title A RESOLUTION recognizing Atkins W. Warren for having completed an eight-week training session sponsored by the U.S. Department of Justice in connection with the Break and Build program. Intro RESOLUTION # 11867, August 25, 1997 INTRODUCED BY Carl W. Bussey, County Legislator Body WHEREAS, Atkins W. Warren has more than 30 years of experience in the administration of justice area; and, WHEREAS, he is currently the Regional Director of Region VII, Community Relations Service (CRS), U.S. Department of Justice in Kansas City, Missouri; and, WHEREAS, in his current position, Mr. Warren has facilitated regional police chiefs and school superintendents into cooperative bodies which are currently addressing the issues of violence and race in their respective communities; and, WHEREAS, prior to coming to the Kansas City office, Mr. Warren served in the national office in Washington D.C., serving as the CRS expert in the field of police relations, providing advice and guidance to CRS specialists working to solve problems and tensions arising in police departments, and as an expert consultant to community groups and officials to help them become more knowledgeable concerning intergroup tensions arising from race and other factors; and, WHEREAS, Mr. Warren recently completed an eight-week training session in connection with the Break and Build program; and, WHEREAS, the Break and Build program is a result of the 1993 Urban Peace and Justice Summit and targets African-American and Latino young men and women who have been involved in street gangs and gang-related activities, with an emphasis on redirecting their lives in a positive direction; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby recognizes Atkins W. Warren for his participation in the Break and Build program and for his commitment to reshaping the lives of troubled young people. Attorney Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
