IN THE COUNTY LEGISLATURE OF JACKSON COUNTY, MISSOURI Title A RESOLUTION congratulating the Kansas City Film Office for bringing the production of "To Live On" to the metropolitan area. Intro RESOLUTION # 12138, March 23, 1998 INTRODUCED BY Victor E. Callahan, County Legislator Body WHEREAS, the Kansas City Film Office has announced that "To Live On," a motion picture by acclaimed director Ang Lee, will be filmed at approximately ten locations in Kansas City and the surrounding area this spring and summer; and, WHEREAS, the film, a Civil War era drama actually set in this area, is based on the novel "Woe to Live On" by Missouri author Daniel Woodrell; and, WHEREAS, an estimated 65-70% of the production's projected $35 million budget will be spent on location; and, WHEREAS, the film will employ approximately 400-500 area residents in actual production work, as well as dozens of others who will serve as actors and extras; and, WHEREAS, an example of the economic impact the production will have on the area is the estimated 10,000 room-nights which will be booked in local hotels; and, WHEREAS, Jackson County locations to be utilized in the filming include the Parks and Recreation Department's own Missouri Town 1855 and Mouth of the Little Blue Park, as well as the sound stage on which interior shots will be filmed; and, WHEREAS, "To Live On" will be the largest film ever to be shot on location in this area; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates the Kansas City Film Office for bringing the production of "To Live On" to the metropolitan area. Attorney Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
