A RESOLUTION congratulating Harry and Doris Gumby on the occasion of their fiftieth wedding anniversary.

Body
WHEREAS, Harry Lester Gumby and Doris Jean Carroll met at church services in Abilene, Texas, while Harry was in the Army Air Corps stationed in Abilene, and Doris was attending college there and also serving as a musician at her father's church; and,
WHEREAS, on July 18, 1946, Harry and Doris were married at Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Abilene; and,
WHEREAS, Harry and Doris moved around the country with the United States Air Force and became the parents of four children, Brenda Joyce, Harry Bernard III, Rosalind Ann, and Arvetta Karen; and,
WHEREAS, Harry's military assignments took him throughout the United States and to Greenland, the Phillipines, and Japan; and,
WHEREAS, the family finally moved to Missouri where Harry retired from the Air Force while stationed at Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base; and,
WHEREAS, Harry then embarked on a new career with a local health center where he worked many years while Doris worked in education and children's services; and,
WHEREAS, Harry and Doris are very active with religious, civic, and voluntary organizations; and,
WHEREAS, Harry and Doris are also members of the Second Baptist Church of Kansas City and with the Area V American Baptist Women, Mid-Western Region; and,
WHEREAS, in addition to their four children, Harry and Doris have been additionally blessed with ten grandchildren and many "adopted" sons and daughters; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Harry and Doris Gumby on the occasion of their fiftieth wedding anniversary, and wishes them many more happy years together.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
