Body
WHEREAS, the National Young Leaders Conference is a unique leadership development program designed for high school students who demonstrate leadership potential and scholastic merit; and,
WHEREAS, sponsored by the Congressional Youth Leadership Council, the Conference selects 350 scholars from across the nation to attend this event; and,
WHEREAS, Lindsay Washam, a junior at Raytown South High School, has been selected as one of the scholars to attend this Conference; and,
WHEREAS, Lindsay is to be commended for her many accomplishments through high school, including a perfect grade point average and holding the top scholastic rank in her class; and,
WHEREAS, Lindsay is involved in SADD (Students Against Drunk Drivers) and is currently working on Black Tear Day - a day of recognition for SADD; and,
WHEREAS, Lindsay is also involved with preparations for an after-prom party and peer tutoring; and,
WHEREAS, Lindsay not only spends 3-5 hours working on homework each evening, but she spends 10-15 hours each week working at Hobby Lobby; and,
WHEREAS, after graduation, Lindsay's plans are to attend either Truman State University or Northwest Missouri State University to major in education; and,
WHEREAS, Lindsay is the daughter of David and Judy Lawrence of Kansas City; and,
WHEREAS, Lindsay is to be commended upon her selection as a recipient of this scholastic honor and for striving for excellence as a student; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Lindsay Washam upon being selected to attend the National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C.
