WHEREAS, Burns & McDonnell is a Kansas City-based international engineering and architecture firm, having regional offices in St. Louis, Chicago, San Diego, and Denver, and many branch offices; and,
WHEREAS, its eight divisions provide speciality services in areas of electric and steam power generation, power plant improvements, electric substations, transmission, and distribution, air pollution control, environmental studies and permitting, transportation and civil infrastructure, water supply and waste water, water resources and water quality, waste management, chemical and petroleum processing, food and pharmaceutical processing, aviation, architecture and interior design, and defense facilities; and,
WHEREAS, this renowned engineering firm engineered Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C. in 1962, the largest Boeing 747 hangar ever built in China, was the first firm to design a hangar for Air Force One, and was the primary engineer for KCI Airport; and,
WHEREAS, Burns & McDonnell received the 1994 Grand Award from the American Consulting Engineers Council for designing America's largest thermal energy storage facility using ice, located in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and also received the Lieberman Prize for Major Public Works for designing the world's largest waste water treatment plant located in Monterey, Mexico; and,
WHEREAS, Burns & McDonnell was founded in 1898 and has been employee-owned since 1986, consisting of 1,160 employees worldwide, with 900 located in the Kansas City area; and,
WHEREAS, Burns & McDonnell has a long and distinguished tradition of providing outstanding service to communities throughout the United States; and,
WHEREAS, Burns & McDonnell will be celebrating its 100th anniversary with an open house at its new world headquarters at 9400 Ward Parkway in Kansas City, Missouri; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Burns & McDonnell upon the occasion of its 100th anniversary celebration and its move to its new world headquarters.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
