WHEREAS, District 43 Missouri State Representative Craig C. Bland was recently elected president of Freedom, Inc; and,
WHEREAS, Representative Bland is a well known civic leader who has been involved in numerous organizations, serving as a member of the Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Center Board of Directors, member of the Greater Kansas City UAW Cap Council for Community Action Program, member of the Missouri Legislative Black Caucus board, treasurer of the Missouri Legislative Black Caucus Foundation, and Jackson County Democratic Committeeman for the 17th Ward; and,
WHEREAS, Representative Bland has also received the following awards in recognition of his service to the community: 2007 Legislator of the Year Outstanding Legislator Achievement Award presented by the Missouri Professional Bail Bond Association, 2007 Time Well Spent Award presented by the United Minority Media Association, 2007 Hope Outreach for Youth Award, 2006 Lifetime of Learning Award presented by the Hickman Mills School District, 2005 HIP City of Kansas City Wonderful Service Award presented by the City of Kansas City, 2004 Jet Banks (J.B.) Community Service Award, 2004 Legislator of the Year for Urban Issues, 2003 Youth Leadership Conference for Outstanding Guidance, and the 2003 Martin Luther King Humanitarian Award; and,
WHEREAS, Representative Bland is married to Alicia Bland, and is the father of Brooke Bland, Joshua Bland, Jeremiah Bland, and Ayssa Bland; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Representative Craig C. Bland upon his recent election as president of Freedom, Inc., and wishes him continued success in this new role.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
