RESOLUTION # 16454, November 13, 2007

 

INTRODUCED BY Bob Spence, County Legislator

 

 

Body

WHEREAS, the Raytown South High School debate and forensics program has qualified in the top 100 of the National Forensic League; and,

 

WHEREAS, the program ranked 79th out of 2,700 schools nationwide, placing it in the top one percent of squads in the nation; and,                                          

 

WHEREAS, the debate and forensics program is coached by debate coach Matt Good,  and forensics coach Kelli Morrill, and,

 

WHEREAS, National Forensic League Executive Director J. Scott Wunn congratulated the program on teaching essential life skills in communications, research, listening, writing, and organization, to a large number of students, rather than just focusing on the few Astars,@ and,

 

WHEREAS, during the 2006-2007 school year, the Raytown South program qualified the following ten students for national competition:  Aishah Harvey, Teonna Wesley, Rachel Shepard, John Tye, Bryce Davis, Nathan Gearke, Clayton Alexander, Tasneem Daud, Jon Hokenson, and James Price; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Raytown South High School debate and forensics program has placed in the top 100 for the past eight (8) years; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates the Raytown South High School debate and forensics program on qualifying in the National Forensic League top 100 and commends the team for its performance.

 

Enacted and Approved

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
