INTRODUCED BY Rhonda L. Shoemaker, County Legislator
WHEREAS, Jackson County is ranked first in the State of Missouri in number of alcohol-related vehicle accidents for the past five years and second in the State of Missouri in number of traffic-related vehicle accidents as a whole; and,
WHEREAS, in 2004, 9.2 % of all Missouri vehicle accidents involved underage drinking, and in 2003 there were twelve fatality accidents and 1,359 injury accidents in Jackson County; and,
WHEREAS, to combat this situation, the Sheriff's Office has been awarded a grant in the amount of $11,340.00 by the Missouri Highway and Transportation Commission in furtherance of the Commission's Blueprint for Roadway Safety: Overtime Enforcement for Aggressive Driving program for the period April 9 through April 21, 2006; and,
WHEREAS, the Sheriff recommends the use of funds for reimbursement of overtime used for the Missouri's Blueprint for Roadway Safety - Aggressive Driving program pursuant to an Agreement with the Missouri Highway and Transportation Commission, a copy of which is attached hereto; and,
WHEREAS, an appropriation is necessary to place the grant funds in the proper spending account; now therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the following appropriation from the unappropriated surplus of the 2006 Grant Fund be and hereby is made:
