A RESOLUTION recognizing the retirement of Carolyn Long and her service to the Jackson County community.

RESOLUTION NO. 21932, May 23, 2025

Body

 WHEREAS, for nearly 30 years, Carolyn Long, a trusted voice in Kansas City, bringing viewers the latest news on KCTV5, is known for her warmth, credibility, and deep connection to the community, and has dedicated her career to keeping Kansas Citians and Jackson County informed; and,

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Long is a native of Akron, Ohio, was raised in the Buckeye State and earned her degree from Kent State University; and,

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Long began her career in radio and television news in Ohio and Connecticut before finding her home in Kansas City, where she has been a staple on KCTV5 ever since; and,

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Long, beyond the newsroom, is passionate about giving back, she actively supports numerous nonprofit organizations, working to uplift individuals and families throughout the metro area, her involvement includes advocating for veterans through War Horses for Veterans, championing healthcare initiatives with the American Cancer Society, JDRF, and Bra Couture KC, and supporting children’s causes with Variety KC, Level-Up Kids, and Youth Ambassadors KC; and,

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Long also lends her time to the Alzheimer’s Association of Kansas City, the March of Dimes, and the American Heart Association, among many others; and,

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Long’s dedication extends to emceeing major charity events, including the annual galas for Tri-County Mental Health and Wayside Waifs, as well as hosting fundraisers for the Kansas City Zoo, Down Syndrome Guild, and Community Services League; and,

 

WHEREAS, whether Ms. Long is on-air or in the community, she is committed to making a lasting impact on the lives of those she serves; and,

 

WHEREAS, outside of her career and community work, Ms. Long has been married to her husband, Dave Long, for 33 years, they have one daughter, Taylor, who is now beginning her own career in Dallas; and,

 

WHEREAS, when Ms. Long is not reporting or giving back, she loves anything with a sense of adventure, including snow and water skiing, unicycling, and even a little bargain hunting, she also enjoys reading and embracing new experiences at any opportunity; and,

WHEREAS, the Legislature and Jackson County recognizes the importance of uplifting Carolyn Long in her accomplishments and retirement; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby recognizes and celebrates the retirement of Carolyn Long.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
