A RESOLUTION congratulating Kristen Walker on winning first place in an international choral composing competition.

Body
WHEREAS, Kristen captured first place in an international choral composing competition sponsored by Meistersingers of Orange County, California; and,
WHEREAS, Kristen beat out 171 entrants including several accomplished professional composers with her piece performed by the Meistersingers and will be featured on their Christmas album and will be published by the Walton Publishing Company; and,
WHEREAS, Kristen also took first place in the Claude T. Smith Composition Contest and had her piece performed by the Southwest Missouri State University Chamber Choir and her high school chamber choir; and,
WHEREAS, Kristen has been active in her school's musical and theater programs and secured leading roles in her school's musical and in this year's school play; and,
WHEREAS, Kristen plays the piano and guitar and sings in the Blue Springs South High School Chamber Choir and A Capella Choir and sings in the Woods Chapel United Methodist Church Choir where she teaches music during Sunday School and has led the worship in the youth group; and,
WHEREAS, Kristen is a talented athlete but gave up playing varsity tennis and playing on a competitive soccer team to devote more time to composing music which she describes as her life's dream; and,
WHEREAS, Kristen also excels academically by being on her school's Honor Roll for the past four years maintaining a 4.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Kristen Walker for her inspirational accomplishments in music, and wishes her success and enjoyment in all her future endeavors.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
