A RESOLUTION authorizing the County Executive to execute contracts with certain municipalities within Jackson County for the purpose of funding their 1997-1998 Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) or similar anti-drug programs, at a total cost to the County not to exceed $1,053,249.18.

WHEREAS, representatives from all municipalities in Jackson County whose police departments sponsor Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) or similar anti-drug programs have make a joint request to the COMBAT Commission and County Legislature, regarding the formula for Jackson County's funding of these programs for the 1997-1998 term; and,
WHEREAS, the consensus reached among the municipalities and COMBAT staff was that these programs be funded in the following amounts:
MUNICIPALITY ALLOCATION
City of Blue Springs $56,626.30
City of Grandview $46,433.57
City of Independence $334,095.17
City of Kansas City $389,588.94
City of Lee's Summit $181,204.16
City of Raytown $45,301.04
TOTAL $1,053,249.18
and,
WHEREAS, at its meeting of August 20, 1998, the COMBAT Commission endorsed the recommendations of the municipalities and agencies involved; and,
WHEREAS, the attached form contract provides a suitable mechanism by which the requested funds can be transferred to the participating municipalities; therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the County Executive be and hereby is authorized to execute contracts with the cities of Blue Springs, Grandview, Independence, Kansas City, Lee's Summit, and Raytown, in the aggregate amount of $1,053,249.18, in a form substantially similar to that attached; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Director of the Department of Finance be and hereby is authorized to make all payments, including final payment on the contracts.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
