A RESOLUTION authorizing the Director of the Department of Finance to issue a check in the amount of $43,224.45 to the Downtown KC Community Improvement District.

Body

WHEREAS, the Downtown KC Community Improvement District was established pursuant to the Community Improvement District Act, §§ 67.1401 et seq., RSMo, to fund certain improvements to streets, curbs, sidewalks, and other components of the infrastructure of downtown Kansas City, Missouri; and,

 

WHEREAS, the district is to be funded largely out of the proceeds of a special assessment on the real property located within the district; and,

 

WHEREAS, through real property owned by Jackson County is exempt from real property taxation and, accordingly, from the special assessments imposed by the district, § 67.1461(9) of the Act authorizes the County's voluntary participation; and, 

 

WHEREAS, if the County's five parcels of real property located within the district were subject to the special assessments imposed by the district, the assessments would total  $43,224.4; and,

 

WHEREAS, the County's parcels within the district, including the downtown courthouse, detention center and annex, Community Justice Building, Criminal Justice Center, and parking lots, will enjoy significant benefits from the improvements that will be constructed by the district, so that it is appropriate that the County participate in the district's financing; and,

 

WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of the health, welfare, and safety of the citizens of Jackson County that the County voluntarily participate in the funding of the Downtown KC Community Improvement District; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Director of the Department of Finance be and hereby is authorized to issue a check in the amount of $48,224.45 to the Downtown KC Community Improvement District.

 

 

Enacted and Approved

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
