AN ORDINANCE transferring $31,393.00 within the 2006 General Fund, appropriating $64,726.00 from the unappropriated surplus of the 2006 Anti-Drug Sales Tax Fund, and authorizing a ten-month extension of the Gun Prosecution Grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Justice.

Body
WHEREAS, the Prosecuting Attorney's Office has been awarded a Gun Prosecution Grant by the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Justice Programs; and,
WHEREAS, this grant recognizes the established nexus between crimes of violence and drug-related crimes; and,
WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice has authorized an extension to the grant from through October 31, 2006; and,
WHEREAS, this grant extension will allow the office to increase the prosecution of violent firearms-related crimes by providing $33,333.00 towards the salary and benefits of one assistant prosecutor for the months of January through October 2006; and,
WHEREAS, a match of $31,393.00 is required for this extension; and,
WHEREAS, a transfer and appropriation are necessary in order to place the grant and matching funds in the proper spending accounts; and,
WHEREAS, the County Executive recommends said transfer and appropriation; now therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the following transfer from the 2006 General Fund and appropriation from the unappropriated surplus of the 2006 Anti-Drug Sales Tax Fund be and are hereby made:
